You will be picked-up at from the airport or bus station and transferred to the office
for a tour briefing. Here you can use the internet and bathroom facilities and there
are restaurants nearby where you can have breakfast before heading off on your
adventure. Note the first breakfast is not included.
At around 9.30am you will be transferred by land transportation to Botafogo port
located on the Tambopata River, where we will cross the river and then continue on
our way to the lodge. The journey takes around an hour. Once at the lodge, we will
check into our rooms (single, double and triple options).
We will then head on a botanical trail to a local chakra (organic farm) where we will
introduce you to produce (local seasonal fruits and vegetables) that are commonly
consumed and part of the local diet as well as medicinal plants that the local people
use to cure illness. You will also have an opportunity to try these and have them for
lunch! We will then head back to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon at around 4.30pm we will head out for our afternoon activity where
we will take a boat onto the local river to see the “jungle beach” and also search for
caimans and capybaras. We will return to the lodge at around 7.30pm/8pm where
we will have dinner and then a good nights sleep.
Today we will spend the whole day exploring Lake Sandoval, located in the National
Reserve of Tambopata. It is the best way to see nature in its natural habitat including
macaws, parrots, other bird species, monkeys, otters, caimans just to name a few.
We will also have the opportunity to learn about different plant species, many which
are used as natural medicines.
Lunch this day will be served at a Lodge located inside the National Reserve of
Tambopata, on lake Sandoval. We will have dinner back at our lodge (Madre de Dios)
Within the Amazon there are more than 1.2 million Brazil nut trees or bertholletia
excelsa in an area of 2.5 million hectares, 20% of which are within the Tambopata
National Reserve.
To get to know these giant trees we will have a walk of 3 to 4 hours on very well
preserved tracks. The Brazil nut is home of fauna and flora, which includes the añuje,
one of the few animals that manages to break its coconuts and at the same time to
be an expert in spreading its seeds.
Fishing
In the afternoon we will participate in fishing in local streams that have specific
points around our lodge, with opportunities to see some animals along the way.
Campfire
This is one of the most awaited activities by our visitors because we have the most
beautiful point of the starry night in the jungle, accompanied by a bonfire and some
stories from our amazon.
Today’s activity will start early at 5.30am where we will take part in a canopy
walkway, which will allow us to see the rainforest from a different perspective at
about 30 meters above ground level. The bridges allow us to appreciate nature from
a high altitude, where we will have a panoramic view of the Rio Madre de Dios. From the platforms you can observe different bird species such as toucans and macaws.
After breakfast get ready for a fun & challenging activity, located 30 meters above
the ground in the trees! That is right, we will be zip lining! For this activity, an
instructor will guide us and advise us on the use of the safety harness before starting
the activity and feeling the adrenaline rush from sliding through the trees. We will
then return to the lodge for lunch and rest.
In the afternoon we will visit Monkey Island located on Madre de Dios River. Many
different species of monkeys such as brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, saddle back
tamarin, and white capuchin can be found on the island. We will also have time to go kayaking on the river.
We will then head back to the lodge where you will take your transport back to
Puerto Maldonado arriving between 4:30 pm and 5 pm.
Note: Please let you know if you have an earlier flight so that we can make arrangements accordingly.
