Your journey begins with pickup from your hotel in Cusco and transfer to the bus station. From there, you’ll travel through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo Train Station, where you’ll board the train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu. Train departure times are subject to ticket availability.
The train journey is one of the highlights of the 2 Day Machu Picchu Tour, offering beautiful views as the landscape gradually changes from the high Andes to the lush cloud forest. Following the Urubamba River and surrounded by dramatic mountains, you’ll descend toward Aguas Calientes, located at approximately 2,040 meters (6,693 ft) above sea level.
After approximately four hours of combined travel from Cusco, you’ll arrive in Aguas Calientes and walk to Vista Machu Picchu Hotel, your accommodation for the night. A buffet breakfast is included for the following morning before your visit to Machu Picchu.
Once you have settled in, your guide will accompany you to Chef House Restaurant for an included lunch. You’ll then have some free time to explore Aguas Calientes, visit local cafés and shops, or enjoy an optional soak in the Aguas Calientes hot springs.
Later in the evening, you’ll return to Chef House Restaurant for your included dinner. At approximately 7:00 pm, during dinner, your guide will give you a detailed briefing for the following day’s visit to Machu Picchu, including the meeting time, transportation, entrance arrangements and the plan for your guided tour of the Inca citadel.
After an early buffet breakfast at Vista Machu Picchu Hotel, you’ll begin the most anticipated part of your 2 Day Machu Picchu Tour. We recommend an early start to enjoy the peaceful morning atmosphere of Aguas Calientes and prepare for your visit to the Inca citadel.
Depending on your selected service and entrance schedule, you’ll make your way to Machu Picchu either by shuttle bus or, if you prefer, by walking up from Aguas Calientes. The bus journey takes approximately 25 minutes along the winding mountain road and offers impressive views of the surrounding cloud forest.
Once at Machu Picchu, your professional guide will lead you through the areas included in your assigned Machu Picchu circuit, explaining the history, architecture and significance of the Inca city. Along the route, you’ll discover remarkable viewpoints, terraces, ceremonial spaces and archaeological structures while learning how Machu Picchu became one of the most extraordinary achievements of the Inca civilization.
Located at approximately 2,430 meters (7,972 ft) above sea level, Machu Picchu is surrounded by dramatic mountains and subtropical forest, creating one of the most iconic landscapes in South America. Your guided visit lasts approximately 1.5 hours, depending on the assigned circuit and pace of the group.
If you have booked an additional entrance to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, you will continue with your corresponding route according to the entrance time shown on your ticket. These additional tickets are limited and must be reserved in advance.
After completing your visit, you’ll return to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have time to enjoy lunch, explore the local market and shops, or simply relax before your return journey.
In the afternoon, you’ll board the train back toward Ollantaytambo. Return train times vary according to ticket availability, season and the service reserved. Upon arrival, our private transportation will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco, bringing your Machu Picchu experience to a comfortable conclusion.
